Have you heard of DYNO Bicycles? It is a company with a colorful history and founded by Robert “Bob” Morales from Redondo Beach, California. He used to be a top freestyle BMX rider who eventually became a promoter, designer, inventor and businessman. Aside from DYNO, he also founded the American Freestyle Association or AFA, Auburn Cycles, Morales Bicycle Company, the Carlsbad Motocross Racing or CMXR and ASV Inventions, to which he is the current president and CEO. Bob was into extreme sports at an early age. He began riding motorcycles when he was seven years old. He started racing them when he was eleven and had won a lot of trophies. At the tender age of fourteen, he took up BMX racing. Bob also became a very young entrepreneur at this young age when he founded his first business which he named BME – Bob Morales Enterprises. Initially, BME sold BMX items thru mail order ads found in BMX magazines. In 1983, BME was renamed DYNO Design. By 1985, Bob stopped racing professionally and concentrated on running his two businesses – AFA and DYNO Design. On the same year he sold DYNO Design to GT Bicycles. DYNO Design was eventually known as DYNO Bicycles. Complete bikes in the DYNO line include the Compe, the D-Tour, the Pro Compe and the Slammer. GT continued to manufacture DYNO bicycles from the mid-1980s to the year 2000. In 2001, GT was liquidated. The brand name “DYNO” was then sold to Pacific Cycle. The new company continued to sell DYNO bicycles until it was acquired by the Canadian firm Dorel Industries in 2004. The now Dorel-owned Pacific Cycle has ceased to market any product bearing the DYNO brand name. Now that you know the history, it will be difficult to find DYNO bike parts sold in the market. If you are going to look specifically for DYNO bike parts, you will not find any. The use of the brand name was discontinued since 2004. Pacific Cycle still exists today and continues to be the leading bicycle manufacturer and distributor in North America and perhaps one of top bicycle suppliers in the world today. This does not mean though that they still sell branded DYNO bike parts. They have parted with the name several years ago.
If you are looking for DYNO bike parts, your best option might be online. There are a lot of pre-owned DYNO bikes being sold through various websites. You can probably ask the seller if they could just give you parts and not the entire bike for sale. |
